The Benefice of St. Leonard’s, Upper Deal with St. Richard’s, Mill Hill and St. Nicholas, Sholden, with St. Martin’s, Great Mongeham have appointed a new Priest in Charge to replace Rev. David Kendrew who retired last November. He will be licensed to the whole benefice on Sunday, 1st June at 6.00 pm at St. Leonard’s Church. The Lent Quiz was a good evening with fun had by all. Many thanks go to the Quiz Master on his selection of questions and for the electronic presentation—all done at the press of a few buttons. There was much mirth and laughter helped along by liquid refreshment and the evening raised £300 for our link in Madagascar. This is all spent in Madagascar supporting orphans, educating mothers and children and on seeds assisting their farming.

CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS
Great Mongeham Horticultural Society Despite a very cold March evening more than 60 members turned out to hear Mr. Bob Ogley talk about ‘The Wind of Change’. The Wind in question was the Great Storm of 1987, which not only changed his surroundings irrevocably but also turned him into a successful author. There will be no speaker at the April meeting as that is our Spring Show. Everything seems to be so early this year that we are all wondering if there will be anything left to show by then—time will tell! JB
St. Martin’s W.I. At the March Meeting, members enjoyed Don Wilks speaking and showing slides on Buttercup, Bluebells and Beasties. It is hoped that Don can be booked for a return visit.
Great Mongeham Society Artist, Tom Burnham proved inspirational with his hands on demonstration of a watercolour painting of a Ffiord in Peru. Members enjoyed watching as Tom layered on the watercolour paint to produce the final masterpiece, which will be raffled at the next meeting to raise funds for the Society.
Drop In is held every Thursday morning at 10 am in the Parish Hall—a successful sale was held on Maundy Thursday and it is hoped to welcome back regulars and new visitors to the weekly event. PSB
Newsletter The Great Mongeham Newsletter has been in circulation for about three and a half years. We would like to thank all those people who once a month, kindly deliver a copy to every household in the parish. We have just increased our circulation at no extra cost to cover homes in Mongeham Road, as far as Sampson Court, as many people in these houses like to attend the many functions that take place within the parish. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ken Friend who has had to give up his delivery round due to ill health. We sincerely hope that he is soon feeling better. If you feel that you are able to help out with a small round in your area, please contact 364457. PH
