FORTHCOMING EVENTS 15th Annual Art Show There is a change of venue and times for this year’s Art Show held over the past 14 years in November. It will move from the Parish Hall to St. Martin’s Church and will take place from Saturday, 8th until Thursday, 13th November from 11am to 4 pm daily. They were so impressed they took
photographs which they showed me, and yes it did look rather nice. How is
that for an 'unsolicited testimonial ' I had not even known they were there.
It is good to be able to feel proud of belonging to a club and village that
can produce days like this. Of course like all the visitors they assumed it
all happened on one day and knew nothing about all the time consuming hard
labour put in on the previous two days, by the committee and their helpers,
but we can appreciate that it is really a 3 day event for some people.
Saint Martin’s W.I. have a good variety of speakers through out the year and welcome any one from 12 years upwards, who would like to come along to their meetings. Visit and see if you would like to join the W.I. PSB
I recently received the following
E Mail from John Allsopp who would be delighted to be contacted by E Mail on
mrjalsop@yahoo.com should any of our readers remember his time spent in
Great Mongeham. How wonderful that through the wonders of the internet,
friends are able to read our Village Newsletter all over the world. We moved to Ellens Road while I was still a baby and grew up with our next door neighbours, the Burr family. It would be lovely to get back in touch with some one I grew up with. The house was called "Twyn Bungalow" and is now what looks like a lorry park, it was the 5th house along Ellens Road and the furthest set back with a big Walnut tree in the far left corner. We used to ride on the lorry driven by a Mr Smith and levelled the corn as it came from the combined harvester on Solley`s farm. We also had a few rabbits and pheasants from the same farm. I sang in the choir at Mongeham Church and fancied the daughter of the publican of the Three Horseshoes, a young lady by the name of Fanny Rolfe. At seventeen I joined the Navy and my parents moved to Deal as the work was getting too much for my mother, we had no electricity, only Well water and cooked on a coal fired range. I now live in Spain but seeing the Mongeham newsletter brought a lump to my throat and a lot of wonderful memories flooding back. Keep up the lovely work and thank you again. |
