CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS
Great Mongeham Horticultural Society At the August meeting members were pleased to welcome back the popular speaker David Marsh whose ‘Story of your Daily Pinta’ was both enlightening and enjoyable. There is no meeting in September but a report on the show will appear in next month’s Newsletter. JB
Saint Martin’s W.I At the August get together, members enjoyed a rain free stroll along the seafront from the pier to the Nelson where they had a meal. PSB
Great Mongeham Society Our August meeting took the form of a saunter round Deal looking at buildings, noting the various historical aspects. Roofs, windows, doors, bricks etc. It was led by architect George Curtis from Ramsgate who was the planning officer for D.D.C. in the 70s. The walk was planned by chairman Jim Rees who was unfortunately unable to join us. A vote of thanks, on behalf of the Society, was given by Mike Blee. DK
Toddlers and Families Playgroup restarts in the Village Hall on Monday, 13th September from 1.00—3.00 pm. The group offers a fun afternoon for children from 0 to 5 years old with craft activities, large and small play equipment, books, songs and refreshments. Cost per family is £1.50. We are also looking for volunteers to help run the sessions. For more details telephone Wendy on 01304 239143 or just pop in to the Village Hall on Monday afternoons. WM
Great Mongeham Village Hall is home to Jan Anton’s Dance and Fitness classes. We have been established for two years now and the classes are very popular with local people as well as others from much farther afield. Jan has been a dance and fitness instructor for more than 30 years and was the founder of a highly acclaimed Stage School on the South Coast taking part in many festivals, galas and winning awards for choreography as well as overseeing numerous pupils into full time dance studies and on to a successful career in the profession. Many of whom now have dance schools of their own.
These days Jan is happily teaching the latest generation of local youngsters, ballet, modern, gymnastics and new for the Autumn term, tap dance—every Friday beginning at 4 pm for the very young and 4.45 pm for the older children, Silver and Gold medal classes. As well as keeping the slightly more mature generation fit with her class on Monday mornings in the village hall, she also coaches special needs children on a Friday afternoon. Two of her girls have just passed their ballet exam with Distinction and Jan would like to know if there are any other parents in the area, who have children with similar needs who would benefit from her special class which takes place at 5.45 pm every Friday.
If you would like a chat with Jan or would like more information please ring 01304 373421 07760150233 OR e Mail dancerjangmail.com Our Autumn term begins on Friday, September 3rd for the children and Keep Fit on Monday, September 6th. JA
Neighbourhood Watch On Tuesday, 3rd July just before midnight a Silver Renault Megane was seen to pass up and down Mongeham Road several times. Shortly afterwards the rubbish next to cars at 184 Malthouse Cottage was set alight. Be vigilant! BLS
