St. Martin’s Church needs flower arrangers, can you help? You do not have to be an experienced flower arranger, you do not have to attend our church, you don’t even have to buy the flowers—if you have an hour per month to spare, please ring Rosemarie on 01304 375261—your help would be much appreciated.
You may have heard a rumour that Peter Hambrook is retiring as priest and lead person at St. Martin’s Church. This is both true and untrue. From January 1st, 2011 my licence will change, but I will receive a new licence that gives me permission to officiate, P.T.O. I will still be the contact person and lead person for St. Martin’s and lead the majority of the services there as I do now but I will have the option of doing less if I feel like it. This is something that is offered to all priests as they reach the retiring age of seventy. I did this several years ago and the bishop has only just caught up with me.

CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS
Great Mongeham Horticultural Society Summer Show After a very wet Sunday, Bank Holiday Monday dawned fine and bright, much to everyone’s relief. The Boot Fair got under way early, the car park started filling up and the Tea Ladies swung into action in the marquee. From the bustle outside it was good to move into the hall and enjoy the delightful exhibition of produce, flowers and handicrafts.
The Committee had obviously worked very hard to create such an attractive display according to the judges. Comments overhead from visitors included ‘very tastefully arranged’, ‘such a high standard’, ‘how do I join the club?’
It was nice to see more children taking part and Aggie Barrett, Katherine Coe, Owen Clark and Bethen Jones are to be congratulated on their winning entries. At the close of the afternoon cups and awards were presented by President Peter Hambrook.
A very successful day, thanks to Chairman Keith, Show Secretary Carol and all the Committee. A full list of prize winners will be published in the E.K.M. JB
Drop In in the Parish Hall every Thursday, 10 am until 11 am—everyone welcome to come along for refreshments and a chat. A friendly group with residents from Ripple, Northbourne, Deal and Walmer and even Plymouth! Plus a chance to borrow books and jigsaws. The local parish councillors, community warden and PCSO also call in when possible. PSB
